The Academy's Blazon of the Coat of Arms

  • The Shield - Symbolizes protection, defense, and strength. It divided into three quadrants with different colours and images with definite meaning;

    The band of rose red across on top featuring a family—father, mother, and child—effectively symbolizes the integral role of family health in ensuring overall well-being, emphasizing the lifelong commitment of family physicians who support individuals from womb to tomb.

    - The band of gold across in centre adorned with three stylized red hibiscus flowers embodies a rich symbolism of love, passion, and health, reflecting the vibrant cultural significance of hibiscus in many societies.

    - The band of purple below contains an open book in gold beautifully represents the concept of knowledge, with purple often symbolizing wisdom and enlightenment, while the golden book signifies the value and richness of learning. 
     

  • The Crest - Made of a wreath on which stands a prominent Malaysian tiger depicted in black and gold stripes, symbolizing strength and courage and wields a staff of Aesklepios, signifying health and medicine, while it subdues a lime green serpent, which typically represents challenges or adversity.
     

  • The Ribbons - Adorned with a unique arrangement of sashes. On the left side, there are two silver sashes with red tips alongside one purple sash with a silver tip. Conversely, on the right side, the shield displays two purple sashes with silver tips paired with a singular silver sash that has a red tip, creating a striking balance of colors and forms. At the bottom, a ribbon written The Academy's slogan "Dengan Tatangan Ilmi". These ribbons symbolize as powerful tools for promoting education, support, efforts, and fostering community solidarity around health-related concerns.

Our Mace

Mace
The mace of the Academy of Family Physicians of Malaysia (AFPM) is designed and forged as a grant symbol of the Academy. The mace is made of gold and silver, weighs 8.0 kilograms and is 1.4 metres long.

Dome
On top of the mace is a dome which signifies knowledge and faith, displaying the spirit of the Academy as an institution in emphasising education as top priority to produce holistic expertise, spiritually and physically.

Cube
The cube is made of 6 square faces that supports the dome, emblazoned with the emblem of the Academy on each face of the cube as the Academy’s symbol of identity. The cube signifies the role of the Academy as an institution of higher learning in contributing knowledge and expertise for the development and advancement of the people.

Vessel
The vessel in between the cube and stem is patterned with iram – iram, giving support to the cube signifying the Academy as one of the existing institutions of education. The Academy is always prepared to
support the community, retrieving and contributing the knowledge and expertise for the people.


Mace Stem
In the middle of the mace, there is a smooth-surfaced mace stem forged that signifies the spirit of unity and integration without prejudice in encouraging the e􀆯ort to produce various professionals in General Practice.

Cone
At the end of the mace is a cone with an axis. The eight portions are representing eight sectors which are education, Research, Humanity, Harmony, Health, Professionalism, Integrity and sustainability. These sectors are the catalysts and continuing e􀆯orts of the Academy in producing the best human capital and a world-class educational center of excellence.​
